Determining Cork Taint

by Kim
(Vancouver)

Hi Isabelle. I really appreciated this anecdote and story about corked wine! I've definitely tasted "funky" wines before but how do you determine whether one is funky (naturally) or off?
You recommend working on your ability to differentiate between good and faulty wines using corked wine...but how do you get that corked wine or know it's corked, in the first place? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Response to Kim about "Corked Taint"

Hi Kim,

Excellent question. You are correct, how to learn if you don't know what to look for. In that case, I recommend using a wine aroma kit sold by a French Company, Le Nez du Vin (The Wine Nose, Ha!). They have a kit featuring 12 wine faults, including "Corked."

Here is the link on Amazon:

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Cheers!
