Dentures affect mainly the perception of food texture
by: Isabelle

Don,

Thanks for your question.

To my knowledge, dentures do NOT affect people's ability to experience the wine's tastes and aroma.

They may challenge the ability to feel certain sensations such as irritation or change in the wine's temperatures in the mouth.

Indeed, sensory receptors detecting pain, pressure, irritation, or temperature are located on the palate and mouth mucosa.

People wearing dentures may perceive food textures differently, especially firm foods requiring biting and mastication before swallowing.

I hope it helps.

Cheers!
